Activate Your Mind

Modern Dance is a diverse form of dance combining Modern Dance, Jazz and other dance styles.
Modern is a very energetic and fun form of dance. It helps to develop confidence, flexibility, strength and technique - creating a verstiule dancer. Moving Through the grades a dynamic style is envolved, with the focus on the students becoming disciplined and well rounded performers.
The school offers classes from Pre-Primary through to Advanced Level, following the Contemporary Modern Jazz IDTA syllabus.

Feel The Rhythm

Tap has to be one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic dance styles. Its roots are set in America and IDTA reflects this rhythmic style, which has had an influence on British theatre for some time.
The exam syllabus starts at pre-primary through to Grade 5 for the children's grade's, to Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 for the students interested in professional training or those who wish to enter into a teacher training program.

Let The Fun Begin

This delightful dance class is aimed at pre-schoolers aged 2.5-4.5 years. Using fun
and imagery to teach the first steps of Ballet & Tap. Scarf’s, musical instruments and array of music are used to stimulate young imaginations and encourage self-expression. Through dance, children are provided with opportunities for achievement and enjoyment while developing muscle control, co-ordination, creativity, spacial awareness, social skills, confidence, self-esteem & poise. Our aim is to develop your child’s natural born curiosity and creativity and to take them into the magical world of dance where imaginations are boundless….

Gaining Strength

Acrobatic dance incorporates tricks such as cartwheels, handstands and walkovers into dance material. There is a modern warm-up combined with balletic technique with an emphasis on flexibility and strengthening work. Acro is great fun and suitable for boys and girls from 5 years of age. Acro blends musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. We follow Acrobatic Arts which is a worldwide syllabus and offer exams in IDTA.

Building Confidence

This class takes on the exciting world of music theatre and combines all 3 essential elements – Singing, Acting and Dancing. Material is taken from a variety of West End and Broadway style productions as well as current theatre style movies. It is a fantastic opportunity to build confidence and if you just love to perform – this is the class for you.

What age do classes start from?

Our Tiny dance classes start from 2.5 years old and fully potty trained. However, children come into class independently without their grown up. We understand all children are nervous and work with them to build confidence.

Where and when do classes take place?

Please check out our timetable where you will find details on all the classes we offer. All our classes are taken at our studios in Crewe.

Can my child just take one class, or do they need to do everything?

Yes, we have lots of single-class options such as Ballet, Tap & Modern, Musical Theatre, Commercial/street and Acro, however ballet or modern need to be taken to attend Acro. A discount is available for students who take our core combination classes.

Different genres of dance complement each other in varying ways, and students that take multiple classes will benefit and develop with the additional tuition and all-round dance education.

Do students take exams?

Yes! We are members of International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), one of the world’s largest examination boards. Using their Ballet, Tap, Contemporary Modern syllabus, we train students to enter examinations. Students can gain OFQUAL-recognised qualifications and earn credits and UCAS points as they climb to higher grades.

We believe that examinations create a standard within our school, and we are very proud of our 100% pass rate. We take pride in caring for our industry by contributing to the performing arts pathway of young people through graded examinations. One of our core values is Confidence, and the teaching team will spend a lot of class time ensuring students are prepared, motivated and confident to be the best they can be. Classes at FTA start with enjoyment and turn into a passion. This is where students then progress and succeed.

Do you do a show?

Every year we take the FTA dancers to the Mitchell Arts Centre for our annual production. This is the highlight of our year. It takes such an incredible amount of work, but goodness me it is so worth it!

Do classes run all year round?

No. Our classes run term-time only in accordance with the Cheshire East calendar. We therefore run and charge for 38-39 weeks of the year but divide this cost into 11 equal monthly payments.

We also run a Summer School of Performing Arts during the summer holidays and run additional events during the school holidays such as guest workshops, school trips, private lessons.

What does my child need to wear?

For the first 4weeks of classes, please just dress in activewear such as leggings, jogging bottoms, cycling shorts, t-shirts & trainers or bare feet. Please no denim, skirts or dresses.

We have a required uniform at FTA.

We believe in getting dressed for success, and turning up in the required uniform not only contributes to a positive attitude towards learning, but it keeps students safe. We really do like our dancers to attend class well-groomed, and we would love for their hair to be in a classical ballet bun for ballet, a neat slick plait/French plaits for Acro and all other classes a neat slick ponytail. Well dressed and neatly groomed students will be acknowledged and rewarded. Please avoid wearing watches, jewellery or long acrylic nails.
